Bon Jovi formed in 1983. It was a few years before I became a fan — but even then, the band was more “hard-core” than my catholic-school, goody two-shoes persona was accustom (especially coming from a John Denver-loving home). But as I grew up and my musical tastes evolved, I learned what all the Bon Jovi fuss was about. As an adult in my 30s, I saw the band in concert at Madison Square Garden. A-maze-ing. And now, in my 40s I got to see the gets-better-with-age band again alongside my one of my very best friends/sister-in-law — Amanda!
The New Jersey rockers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April. The 10,000-seat, state-of-the-art Mohegan Sun Arena has hosted major national recording artists since its opening in 2001 and on this visit we got to see Bon Jovi!
It was awesome. He walked right by me and I grabbed his shirt (like a typical groupie!) and he rocked the night. Seriously, soooooo good. What an amazing venue to see a show. He was way more grey than the last time I saw him preform, but then again, so was I! I guess we all get better with age.
So, beyond seeing BON-FREAKIN-JOVI, how was our trip?
Let’s put it this way, if you’re looking for a getaway from New York City, I highly recommend a visit to Mohegan Sun. It is only about 130 miles from NYC but feels like worlds apart. It was the perfect quick escape!

We ate at Michael Jordan’s 23.sportcafe featuring modern cuisine in a contemporary setting that highlights Michael Jordan’s basketball career. The Kentucky Derby took place during our meal so we were able to cheer along with the whole enthusiastic crowd as we watched on the television screens that surrounded the restaurant.
The two tower hotel at Mohegan Sun allows guests the flexibility to stay for a quick escape or indulge in a weekend getaway. The Sky Tower and Earth Tower combined boast 1,563 guest rooms and over 175 suites.
Our room was quaint, but perfect. It wasn’t extravagant, but it was very nicely appointed and everything was clean. Spotless. The bed was amazing — literally the best sleep I can remember having in a long time. I love a good hotel bed.
The bathroom was immaculate. The shower was awesome. The toiletries were nice as well. The soap was shea butter and green tea — fancy!
