My husband and I recently celebrated our four-year wedding anniversary at Mount Airy Casino Resort. And before you ask, NO…they don’t have cheesy heart-shaped bathtubs.
If you grew up in the tri-state area in the ‘70s and/or ‘80s, chances are you remember the commercials (go ahead, sing it with me!): “At beautiful Mount Airy Lodge, all you have to bring…is your love of everything!”
The ads were corny — albeit catchy (yup, still singing them today!) — and the resort lured newlyweds to the honeymoon capital of the east coast to start their lives together in the ultimate romantic setting. Sadly for the resort, the relationship did not end well as it closed its doors in 2001.
Since most weird/odd/strange situations seem to find me, of course I have multiple stories about visiting the old Mount Airy back in my college days (a million years ago)…and one of them may or may not have involved heckling Howie Mandell during a comedy show. But that’s another story, for a different day.
Now, back to our anniversary weekend getaway…
Rebuilt from the ground up, Mount Airy Casino Resort – Pennsylvania’s first AAA Four Diamond-rated casino – opened in 2007. Located among the picturesque Pocono Mountains, and less than a two-hour drive from Long Island, this was a great escape for our anniversary. And with five children (three from my first marriage, two from his!) and a dog back on Long Island, we were certainly excited for some kid-free time and testing our luck in the casino!
Our ride was awesome. We didn’t care about potential traffic. We didn’t argue about what song was on the radio. And we didn’t play one game of “I spy” … we already hit the jackpot and we weren’t even near the casino yet.
Upon arrival, we walked through the doors to a beautifully decorated lobby with a large waterfall and grand chandelier that immediately captured our attention. Check-in was speedy and seamless.
The Mount Airy Casino Resort Accommodations
Check-in is at 3 p.m. but our room was ready so we headed straight there. The Mount Airy Resort features a variety of room categories (all non-smoking) — varying in rates depending on room type and travel dates. We stayed in a Deluxe King room. A pillow-top bed beckoned me for a nap, and I almost gave in, but there was a slot machine (or a few) with my name on it!
Our room on the sixth floor featured a gorgeous view of the well-maintained 18-hole championship golf course (just across the street). The spacious room featured modern décor highlighted with dark wood furniture and jewel-toned accents in pillows and art. Amenities included an LG flat panel TV, mini bar with snacks (prices varied by selection) and complimentary Wifi. Bonus: there were plenty of hangers in the closet — always a plus in my book.
The bathroom featured Kohler fixtures and granite countertops, a shower stall with a rainfall shower head. There was a separate toilet area allowing for extra privacy. The resort provides a range of Gilchrist & Soames toiletries including an oatmeal cleansing bar. Loved it!
The Mount Airy Casino Resort Gaming
Open 24 hours, the casino is home to over 1,800 slot machines and 80 table games, including blackjack, roulette, craps, baccarat and poker. I certainly tested my lady luck, but winning wasn’t in the cards for me on this trip (you see what I did there?) — either way, it was fun trying.
Mount Airy Casino Resort Dining
Signature restaurant options include Guy Fieri’s Mt. Pocono Kitchen and Bistecca by IL MULINO. The resort has other places to eat as well, such as the Lucky 8 Noodle + Sushi Bar, Starbucks (THANK YOU!), Red Mango Yogurt Cafe, Nostalgia Candy Store and an all-you-can-eat buffet. You are certainly not without options for the type of food or price range.
The menu at Guy Fieri’s Mt. Pocono Kitchen reflects his signature style of authentic and surprising flavors. We watch “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” all the time so it was fun to be in his restaurant. We heard that he had been on-property the previous weekend — it would have been awesome to get a picture with him — but we settled for this shot.
We had two amazing meals here. For dinner, we indulged in mouth-watering burgers. Amazing in their own rite, I complemented mine with – wait for it – roasted brussel sprouts. It was the first time I ever tried them and I have been trying to replicate the recipe ever since. Oh, and the waffle fries. O-M-G.
About 12 hours later, we were served the most amazing breakfasts that we have ever had. Words can’t do it justice, so just check out the picture. Crazy good.
We went to the buffet for lunch later that day and had a little bit of everything. And I mean everything. There was something for all tastes and even live music.
For our anniversary dinner, we went to Bistecca by IL MULINO which combines hand-crafted pasta, local seafood and farm-fresh vegetables. My husband started with baked clams which he loved. Then, it was filet mignon for both of us and we agreed our meals were out of this world.
The Mount Airy Casino Resort Spa
The on-site spa, offers body care treatments, therapeutic facials, massages, skin care services, waxing, and even psychic readings. For an hour before and after your appointment, you have access to the quiet room, steam, sauna and rain shower facilities.
I had Signature Massage and it was one of my favorite parts of the trip. My massages made me comfortable, applied the perfect pressure and left me more relaxed than I had been in a very long time. In a word: heavenly.
Other resort highlights include an award-winning, lakefront 18-hole golf course, a luxury indoor/outdoor pool and entertainment complex, an outdoor summer stage that hosts summer concert series and headline entertainment at Gypsies Nightclub.
The resort is super close to The Crossings Premium Outlets (just a 10-minute drive) — I didn’t realize this until it was too late, but it’s a great option for guests while other people in their party play a round of golf, hit the slots, relax by the pool or indulge in a spa treatment.
