I am sure you have come across funny parenting cartoons that result in a “that happens in my house too!” smile. Often, the ones that resonate with me come from Science of Parenthood, a blog I have been following for awhile, and I even got to meet the creators during a blogging conference earlier this year.
These are a few of my favorites from the blog…
And now, the funny ladies behind the blog (Norine Dworkin-McDaniel and Jessica Ziegler) have released a new book: Science of Parenthood: Thoroughly Unscientific Explanations for Utterly Baffling Parenting Situations.
Even Dr. Oz thinks they are a hoot…
“The perfect field manual for all the parents out there who can do nothing else with their day but laugh.” – Mehmet Oz, MD, father, grandfather and Emmy Award-winning host of The Dr. Oz Show
Blending the perfect mix of funny and parenting frustrations, Science of Parenthood explores the burning questions:
- Why do children grow up so fast, yet Candy Land drags on so s-l-o-w-l-y?
- Why must children sleep perpendicular to any adult laying down with them?
- Are construction-grade headphones an acceptable baby shower gift?
- Seriously, how is it possible for one kid to lose so many thermoses?
- How many tequila shots does it take to get through an episode of Caillou?
I remember – so vividly – watching the same television programs OVER and OVER and OVER with my children. The messages were cute, and the songs were catchy, but enough-is-enough. Eventually, I was “up-to-here” with the purple dinosaur, didn’t want to hear that red puppet sing “la, la, la, la” one more time and don’t even get me started on “Come On, Vamanos….Everybody Let’s Go.” So naturally, the below graphic from the book stuck out as one of my favorites.
Honestly (the only kind of review I would offer), I can tell you that the book is great – funny, clever, witty and relatable…I give this book an enthusiastic, Fonzie-style “thumbs up.”
This book would make a great gift for baby showers, new parents in the trenches, and veteran moms and dads who want to look back and laugh (grandparents, too). WANT TO WIN AN AUTOGRAPHED COPY?
