I was thinking about the places I have visited in my life – whether it was for business or pleasure – and I was surprised when I realized that my suitcase has some real miles on it!
I decided to go through my list and write down the best memory I can remember in each destination. Here goes:
Canada – Maid of the Mist in Niagara Falls.
California – A mother/daughter trip in college.
Connecticut – Mohegan Sun with two of my besties.
Florida – Disney World with the kids – that one is a given.
Georgia – Spending time with one of my closest friends.
Maryland – Going to an Orioles game at Camden Yards (by myself while on a business trip).
Mississippi – Friendliest people I’ve ever met.
Nevada – Renewing our vows with Elvis.
New Hampshire – Being with my bestie/sister-in-law.
New Jersey – My first Bruce Springsteen concert.
New York – Too many to list, but looking forward to new favorite memories to come.
Pennsylvania – Attending the University of Scranton and meeting some of the best friends a gal can have.
Rhode Island – My last vacation as a Kearney with my ex-husband’s family. Such good people.
Texas – Spending one of my daughter’s first Halloween holidays with her cousins.
Austria – Seeing the sights of “The Sound of Music.”
Belgium – I really don’t remember. I guess a safe answer is: THE WAFFLES!?
Czech Republic – Joe’s Bar.
France – Nothing. Do not ride public transportation while wearing a huge backpack. Apparently, that is frowned upon by the locals.
Germany – The beer gardens and “Mike’s Bike Tour.”
Italy – Venice: there were no hostels, so we had to stay at a nice hotel. We felt like royalty!
Amsterdam – Visiting the Anne Frank house. Spain – Relaxing on the beach after a long journey across Europe.
Switzerland – Canyoning with my girls.
Barbuda – Staying on a private island at a nine-room resort and taking a helicopter to get there.
Bahamas – Swimming with the dolphins.
Dominican Republic – Awesome rice and beans.
St. Maarten – Only there for 24 hours and I was SO sick.
Mexico – Chichen Itza. That thing was STEEP … but exciting to climb.
Nevis – Non-stop shooting stars at night. AMAZING.
Puerto Rico – My first business trip. Still at the same job after 17-plus years…guess I did something right!
I don’t travel much for work anymore because of my children. It is too much with the kids getting older in different schools and with having to be here, there and everywhere for various activities.
However, I have had wonderful experiences travelling, and I wonder where my next journey will take me – whenever that may be!
What was your favorite place to unpack your suitcase and what made it so special?
